Kids get a taste of squash |
A group of year five children from Beeston Rylands Junior School had their first go at squash thanks to a partnership between Trent Vale Squash Club, Broxtowe Borough Council and Boots. Accompanied by their headteacher, Kevin Briffett, 24 children took part in a fun, mini squash session that tested their fitness, racquet skills and competitive edge. The event was part of the school's sports week which gave the pupils a week off all normal lessons and the opportunity to have a go at lots of different sports including Kwik Cricket and BMX biking. Head teacher, Kevin Briffett, said: "We wanted this week to open the pupils' eyes to the huge range of sports that are available to them - some of them right on our doorstep. Taking part in sports gives children an enormous amount of confidence as well as developing their skills in leadership, team work and communication." "The pupils loved the squash sessions as it was a sport that they had not done before and we are hoping that we can develop this." Allan Booth, Treasurer of Trent Vale Squash Club added: "It was great to see so many children enjoying squash. We are keen to see this happen on a more regular basis and get more local children and adults to have a go at the sport." |
